Abstract: It is clear that in the past decades, psychotherapy research, in particular CBT research has made significant progress in Asia and the benefits are well known. However, the unintended and dark sides of this progress has seldom been presented and discussed. There are two main points of this address. Point I is to summarize the current status of the psychotherapy research in Asian Countries by Asian authors using CBT research as a case study. Papers published in English language journals from PsycInfo and PubMed from 1971-2016 were used. The search terms were Cognitve Behavior/behaviour therapy, behaviour/behaviour therapy, Cognitive behaviour, Asian, Asia. The results showed that Asian CBT has made great progress and that CBT is now widely used in Asia. The future of Asian CBT is very good indeed. However, there are the unintended and seldom discussed dark sides of Asian CBT progress as we move to the future. Point 2 will outline some of those unintended and seldom discussed dark sides for discussion and suggest a way forward.
