Abstract: Mindfulness, rooted in Eastern contemplative traditions, has been receiving serious attention from the West in recent decades for its benefits to health. In this talk, I will report our investigation on mindfulness intervention for inner peace, and Present Awareness Mindfulness (PAM) meditation, a new mindfulness intervention I developed. The relationship between mindfulness and inner peace is emphasized in east culture. However, whether mindfulness practices might ultimately increase an individual’s inner peace has not been studied empirically. Adopted the method of experience sampling to measure inner peace in participants’ daily life, the study provided the first evidence that mindfulness practices can increase inner peace. In addition, the positive association between mindfulness and inner peace was mediated by self-acceptance was investigated. Moreover, Present Awareness Mindfulness (PAM), which I developed and is thought to be easier to practice, showed the initial effectiveness and lower attrition rate.
